Greatest Love of All由Michael Masser和Linda Creed***同创作。Linda Creed在为这首歌填词的时候，身患乳腺癌。歌词描述了她同病魔斗争以及作为一位年轻母亲的感受。她最终还是没能挺过去，于1986年4月去世，享年37岁。

这首歌是Whitney Houston的同名专辑中的第七首。这首单曲发行于1986年4月，于当年5月份连续三周位于Billboard排行榜榜首。Whitney Houston所在的Arista唱片公司创始人Clive Davis一开始反对Whitney Houston录制这首歌，但是在Houston和Masser的劝说下，他最终让步了。
