斯卡保罗集市原名斯卡布罗集市（Scarborough Fair），是指一首17世纪的苏格兰民间谜歌，整段旋律弥漫着甜蜜而忧伤的悠远意境。原作者是谁未知。Scarborough Fair原是一首17世纪的苏格兰民间谜歌（riddle song），所谓“riddle song”是指那些民间流传广泛，但是不知道作者是谁的歌曲，而且由于人们的相互传唱，本来的曲调已经改变了很多。

后来英国民歌手马汀·卡西（Martin Carthy）在原歌的基础上加进了自己的再创造（尤其是里面那优美的吉它伴奏），把它变成了一首非常优美的爱情歌曲。保罗曾于64－65年期间在英国度假，并经常出没于英国民谣圈演唱，学会这首歌后，重新谱写了词曲。
